Today, Tuesday 30th of April, the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria promotes the city’s gastronomic and cultural offer as Gran Canaria’s urban destination at the tourist session Koniginnendag, the Dutch party celebrated today at Playa del Inglés, in the south of Gran Canaria, in occasion of the coronation of Prince Willem-Alexander, son of Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands.
The City Council of Tourism has set a tourist information booth at the Traditional Dutch Market that will be open at El Veril from 12 noon, and where promotional products will be given such as maps and guides to invite visitors to the event to come to the capital city, only 30 minutes away.
The participation of the Grancanarian capital in this event is one of the actions carried out by the Area of Tourism to attract visitors of the tourists resorts located in the south of Gran Canaria to the capital city. In this regard, the City Council keeps a permanent information campaign in the street furniture (billboards) of Playa del Inglés, Maspalomas, Meloneras, San Agustín, Puerto Rico and Amadores, with the motto ‘Capital City Only 30′ Away’, complemented with the promotion of the products History, Taste and Shopping, and Events like the Carnival or the start of the LPA Card.
The Dutch party Koniginnendag is a tradition celebrated in this European country since 1885 to commemorate the coronation day of Queen Wilhelmina, a date that coincides this year with the abdication of Queen Beatrix in favor of son Prince Willem-Alexander, who becomes the first man on the throne since the demise of his great-great-grandfather Willem III of The Netherlands in 1890.
This party wears the streets of Playa del Inglés in orange as tribute of the thousands of Dutch tourists who spend every year his holidays in Gran Canaria. The event will be carried out between today’s 12noon and tomorrow’s 2am with live music, a market, parade and activities for children.
