The Town Hall of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria opens the doors of the Architectural Complex of the Castle of La Luz, the main defending fortress of the island of Gran Canaria, in the Port – Canteras area, on Tuesdays at 4pm and 5pm; Thursdays at 11am and noon; and on Sundays at 11am and noon.
Visits, whichever the chosen day and time, will be of 45 minutes and will be given to shifts of 25 people and must be booked via email to this address:

The programme ‘Abierto patrimonial’ (‘Open heritage’) gives access to the archaeologic finding that gave light to the tower of Alonso Fajardo and the artillery barrier. Besides, visitors will be able to enjoy an amusing theoretical explanation to introduce them in the historical-architectural context of the descovery.
The history of the fortress, explained by the connection of the building with different moments of the city’s history; the archaeological discovery, with a listing of data discovered in the excavation; and the architectural intervention, consisting of the presentation and explanation of every decission taken during the refurbishment proyect, carried out by Nieto y Sobejano Arquitectos, will be the three steps taken during the visitor’s route.

The Tourist Board of Gran Canaria, the Town Hall of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Port Authority of Las Palmas have opened today, Tuesday 4th November, at the City Marina, the tourist information office to attend the crews of the 242 boats participating in the 29th edition of the ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers), the world’s biggest transoceanic regatta, organised by World Cruising Club, and also the ones participating in the 2nd ARC +.
The Tourist Information Point is already installed at the City Marina of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, right in front of the ARC HeadQuarter’s plattform, and will remain open until Sunday the 23rd of November, from Monday to Friday, from 9am and 2pm and from 3pm to 6pm; and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 2pm, to offer the participating crews of this internationally renowned event any kind of information of the islands and its capital city (guides, maps, timetables, guided visits, cultural schedule, etc.)
The 29th edition of the ARC and the 2nd edition of the ARC+ have around 242 participating boats of 35 countries and they will remain berthed at the City Marina of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to set sail next Sunday the 23rd en route to the caribbean island of Saint Lucia, a 2700 nautial mile oceanic crossing that has become a reference in the world sailing circuit. Next Sunday the 9th of November, the participant boats of the ARC+ will set sail with a stop at Cape Verdes.
For this edition, the Tourist Board of Gran Canaria, along with the Town Hall of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Port Authority of Las Palmas have organised a schedule of activities for all, crews and locals who wish to share these days at the City Marina of the Grancanarian Capital to enjoy this event.
