The City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria hoisted on Monday 8th of August at the beaches of Las Canteras and El Confital, the EU Blue Flag, the international distinctive awarded by the Environmental Education and Consumers’ Association (ADEAC) as recognition to the quality of the bathing waters, environmental management, security, information and cleansing offered by these two capital city beaches.
Also hoisted today at Las Canteras Beach was the Q for Tourist Quality, awarded by the Spanish Institute for Tourist Quality (ICTE), and given for the first time to a beach of the Canaries due to its excellence as tourist product.
Las Canteras Beach has been sporting the EU Blue Flag year after another since 1989, except for 2010. This award “has become a distinctive that endorses the excellence of this beach all year round. Besides, the recognition of the Q for Tourist Quality is an essential element to promote the city as tourist destination.”
Las Canteras Beach is one of Spain’s best valued beaches and along with the Blue Flag, it also boasts the Q for Tourist Quality, the UNE-EN ISO 14001 Certificate awarded by AENOR, and the Universal Accessibility Certificate.
On the other hand, el Confital Beach will sport the Blue Flag during the summer season, thanks to its environmental values, the quality of the services of safety and rescue, and of the public toilets.
Las Canteras and El Confital beaches comply with the 27 criteria requested by the ADEAC to gain the EU Blue Flag, and to endorse the basic requisites of quality in the services offered: water, toilets, showers, accessibility to PRM, rescue posts, civil protection, information, and above all, to comply with the environmental quality standards.
The destinations endorsed by the “Q for Quality” have been strictly audited to assure the services offered with a guarantee of quality and professionalism to give visitors the best tourist experiences ever.
