It is the first beach of the Canaries to receive such recognition.
Today, Friday the 1st of February, the Councillor of Tourism of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Pablo Barbero, has received at Fitur 2013 in Madrid the Q Brand for Tourist Quality, that the ICTE (the Spain’s Institute for Tourist Quality) has awarded to Las Canteras Beach in recognition of the quality parameters of the services offered by this capital city’s beach.
With this recognition, Las Canteras Beach becomes the first beach of the Canaries to flaunt the Tourist Quality Q Brand that will lead it to achieve prestige, reliability and rigorous promotion and to stand out from other tourist destinations.
This award recognises the stake put by the City Council upon the excellence of Las Canteras Beach as a dynamic element of the city’s economic activity and an endorsement to attract tourists. In this regard, Las Canteras Beach displays the most important certificates of quality awarded to the beaches of the Spanish coastline. Its services and quality are already endorsed by the Blue Flag of the European Union, the AENOR Certificate UNE-EN ISO 14001, the Universal Accessibility Certificate, and the Commitment for Tourist Quality Distinctive.
Mr. Barbero insisted that achieving this recognition “is not an overnight improvisation” but the results of a work to place Las Canteras Beach as the most important urban beach of the Canaries and one of Europe’s most outstanding urban beaches. “To achieve these guarantees, it has passed strict criteria audits periodically reviewed, discussed and increasingly demanding” he stated. Besides, he insisted on the need to keep pushing for quality as a value that stands the city over other direct competitors in attracting tourists.
The Councillor reminded that Las Canteras Beach is one of the first places visited by cruise line tourists when they land on the city, as well as a great natural display to show some of the most demanded services by tourists such as accommodation, gastronomy, nature, and leisure and sport activities. “Tourists look for a guarantee of quality, safety and professionalism, and that is exactly what we must offer to assure the best possible tourist experience in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria”, the Councillor stated.
This brand not only recognises the respect for environmental values and ecosystems sustainability, but also assesses the beach services, from safety systems, rescue and first aid, information, cleansing, and equipment to accesses and hygienic and leisure services both public and privately managed.
The Spain’s Institute for Tourist Quality is the entity that carries out the audits to tourist products and destinations that apply for the recognition of its quality. The Institute is formed by the State Secretary for Tourism, the Autonomous Communities, and the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces.
