- The capital city of Gran Canaria has been chosen by the Board of Directors of the Institute for Tourist Quality of Spain (ICTE) out of more than ten cities.
- The 9th, 10th and 11th October 2013, the Congress Hall of the Canaries – Alfredo Kraus Auditorium will host the event with half a thousand professionals from all over the world.
The 9th, 10th and 11th October 2013, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will host the 2nd International Congress of Tourist Quality, after being chosen by the Directors Board of the Institute for Tourist Quality of Spain (ICTE), entity that Certifies Quality Systems for tourist enterprises, promoted by the Secretary of State for Tourism, out of more than ten different cities that opted to become the seat of this professional meeting, with more than half a thousand participant tourism experts from all over the world.
Yesterday, Tuesday 7th of May, the City Councillor of Tourism, Pablo Barbero, presented in Madrid the candidacy of Gran Canaria’s Capital City as a first class urban destination to host this kind of events.
During his intervention, Barbero highlighted the strengths of the city and the effort made by enterprises and institutions to work following quality and excellence standards whilst offering tourist services and products. In this regard, he explained to the jury the strategic plan to reinvent the tourist city, with actions to revitalise the cultural, gastronomic and commercial offer that differ the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria as an urban destination.
The Tourist Quality Q certifications sported by Las Canteras Beach, the Congress Hall of the Canaries – Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, and several hotels of the capital city, such as Santa Catalina Hotel; along with an accommodation offer in 4 and 5 star hotels of 1815 rooms, and the excellent weather enjoyed in autumn, were other key elements defended by the Councillor during his presentation.
Besides, logistics features like the good flying connections of the island of Gran Canaria, the infrastructures, facilities, technical and human resources served for the ICTE directors to choose Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, before the other two finalist cities, Lorca (Murcia) and Marbella (Málaga).
The candidacy of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is promoted by the City Council, with the support of the Government of the Canaries, the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, the Gran Canaria Convention Bureau, the Congress Hall of the Canaries – Alfredo Kraus Auditorium and the Federation of Entrepreneurs of Hotel Industry and Tourism of Las Palmas.
The Institute for Tourist Quality of Spain was established in year 2000 as the entity of Quality Systems Certification for tourist companies aiming to create, develop, update and review the Regulations to award the Brand Q for Spain’s Tourist Quality, awarded by the Government of Spain.
